IDF Airstrike Hits Hamas Naval Police Headquarters in Khan Younis, Killing Senior Operative
JERUSALEM (VINnews)-The Israeli Air Force struck the main headquarters of Hamas’s naval police in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, killing several terror operatives including a senior commander in the group’s military wing, the Israel Defense Forces announced.
The airstrike targeted a site in the Khan Younis area, according to the military. Among those killed was Ismail al-Lahham, a cell commander in Hamas’s military wing.
The IDF said Hamas’s naval police operates under the authority of the group’s military wing and works to advance, direct and carry out terror attacks against IDF troops and the State of Israel.
“At the headquarters that was struck, Hamas conducted rehabilitation and force-building efforts, in violation of the ceasefire agreement and while exploiting infrastructure presented as civilian,” the military said in a statement.
Separately, the IDF said it struck and destroyed three Hamas arms caches last week, where weapons intended for use against Israeli troops were stored.
Prior to that strike, after the military issued warnings to residents in the area, IDF forces identified several Hamas operatives attempting to remove the weapons from the warehouses using vehicles. The military then struck the terrorists and the weapons, the IDF said.
The announcements come amid ongoing tensions in Gaza following the ceasefire agreement.
