Fetterman Blasts Far-Left Democrats’ Growing Anti-Israel Consensus
WASHINGTON D.C (VINnews)-Sen. John Fetterman sharply criticized what he called a rising anti-Israel consensus among far-left Democrats, saying it has become a defining thread uniting progressive voices in his party.
In an appearance Wednesday on Newsmax’s “The Record with Greta Van Susteren,” the Pennsylvania Democrat highlighted the shift, pointing to members of Congress and activists who have embraced positions he views as hostile to Israel.
“The thing they have all in common is becoming anti-Israel,” Fetterman said.
He cited examples including Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., defending Antifa activists, and other Democrats participating in rallies that celebrated the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel.
Fetterman, who has positioned himself as a strong supporter of Israel within the Democratic Party, has increasingly distanced himself from the progressive wing on Middle East policy. His remarks come amid ongoing tensions within the party over the Israel-Hamas war, antisemitism concerns on college campuses and U.S. policy toward the Jewish state.
The senator’s comments reflect a broader debate in Democratic circles following the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks that killed approximately 1,200 people in Israel, mostly civilians, and led to the abduction of about 250 hostages. Israel’s subsequent military campaign in Gaza has drawn sharp criticism from the party’s left flank, while Fetterman and other moderates continue to back Israel’s right to defend itself.
