- The U.S. House of Representatives is set to vote this week on a bill making Daylight Saving Time permanent, after clearing the House Rules Committee this evening.
If enacted, sunrise in New Jersey would take place after 8am for approximately 67 days in the winter, with the least occurring at 8:19.

- JCP&L says it has completed power restoration following the severe Fourth of July weekend storms that knocked out service to more than 400,000 customers. The utility said approximately 5,700 workers participated in the recovery effort, replacing more than 500 utility poles, 600 transformers, and nearly 31 miles of wire. JCP&L added that it plans to invest $6.8 billion over the next five years to strengthen the electric grid and improve reliability during future storms.
- A decision by the Bnei Brak Municipality: Separate sidewalks for men and women will be designated along sections of King Solomon Street and Ezra Street near simcha event halls. - Giyus: Leading Sephardic rabbonim and roshei yeshiva have issued a strongly worded letter opposing legislation that would temporarily freeze the arrest of draft-age yeshiva students, warning that it would place the Torah world under unprecedented government oversight. They argued the bill would empower the state to monitor yeshivos, conduct surprise inspections, and require roshei yeshiva to report on student attendance, calling on the chareidi public to firmly oppose what they described as a dangerous threat to the independence of Torah institutions.
- U.S. Capitol Police just arrested a man who was armed with a firearm at the North Barricade outside Congress.
- Giyus: The wife of Nehorai Ben David, a Bat Yam yungerman arrested after reporting to an IDF induction office to resolve his draft status, claims he was unexpectedly detained and is being mistreated in military prison. She alleges he has faced degrading treatment, limited family contact, and restrictions on tefillah, while the family has retained legal counsel as he serves a 20-day sentence. Israeli authorities had not issued an official response at the time of publication.
- Hours before his sudden death, Sen. Lindsey Graham reportedly told confidants he wasn't feeling well a person urged the senator to seek medical attention immediately but he planned to do so after a scheduled television appearance. He reportedly joked, "I can't die now," citing unfinished work on Russia sanctions, Iran, and Israeli-Saudi normalization. He died several hours later at his Washington, D.C., home following what his office described as a brief and sudden illness.
- Giyus: IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir has sharply criticized proposed legislation that would effectively freeze the enlistment of most yeshiva students for seven months, calling it incompatible with the military's operational needs. In a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, and committee chairman Boaz Bismuth, Zamir warned that having IDF officers approve exemptions from arrest for draft evasion would undermine trust in the military, deepen inequality, and create a rift with soldiers who have carried the burden of the war over the past two-and-a-half years.
- One of Yerushalayim's most well-known shuls, Zichron Moshe, is set to undergo a major renovation and expansion that will include a new network of shtieblach modeled after Bnei Brak's famous Itzkowitz shul. The multi-phase project will upgrade the main bais medrash, expand existing shtieblach, improve restroom facilities, add an internal staircase connecting the lower and upper levels, and modernize the building to better accommodate the thousands of mispallelim who use the shul each week. Construction is expected to begin in the coming days.

- New Jersey's new e-bike regulations, which take effect July 19, are already drawing criticism from bicycle shop owners who say the rules are hurting business. The law requires riders to be at least 15 years old, obtain an e-bike or driver's license, register all e-bikes, and insure motorized bicycles. - New Jersey ranks third in the nation for fatal crashes involving aggressive or careless driving, according to a new LendingTree analysis of 2024 federal crash data. Nearly 45% of the state's 638 fatal crashes were linked to road rage or aggressive driving, while New Jersey also recorded the nation's highest accident rate at 31.5 crashes per 1,000 drivers. The report cited the state's dense traffic and heavy commuter volume as key factors contributing to unsafe driving behavior.
