Potential power outages Shabbos afternoon Widespread severe thunderstorms are expected to hit New Jersey on Shabbos with the potential for flash flooding, damaging winds, hail and the threat of isolated tornadoes, forecasters say.
“A significant weather event is looking more likely Saturday,” the National Weather Service said early Friday. “Multiple rounds of showers and storms are expected, which may begin before noon and extend after sunset.”

- Thousands Attend Lake Carasaljo Fireworks; Pedestrian Safety Concerns Raised
Thousands of Lakewood residents gathered at Lake Carasaljo for the Independence Day drone and fireworks show. Despite poor air quality, the event went on as planned, and township officials accommodated the community by keeping the show free of loud music during the Nine Days.
After the event, however, thousands of people were left to walk along and cross Route 9 without police officers or crossing guards to assist. Many pedestrians crossed through moving traffic as vehicles were not stopped.

- PSA: Traffic Alert: World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium
Anyone traveling on Sunday should be aware of major traffic delays around MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, due to the FIFA World Cup Final. More than 80,000 fans are expected to attend the match, which kicks off at 3:00 p.m. President Donald Trump is also expected to attend, resulting in heightened security and additional traffic restrictions.
Heavy traffic is expected to begin Sunday morning and continue through approximately 9:00 p.m. Motorists should allow extra travel time and, if possible, avoid the area around the Meadowlands during those hours.

- A 20-year-old Lakewood man was charged after police said he fled from officers on a stolen ATV before abandoning the vehicle and attempting to escape on foot. Lakewood police responded to the Prospect Street area at about 9:50 p.m. July 13 after the owner of a stolen dirt bike and ATV reported finding the vehicles.

- A new frum political group, representing dozens of frum communities and independent local leaders, is calling on Knesset members Moshe Gafni and Aryeh Deri to give it a spot on their parties' Knesset candidate lists. The group has recently met with senior party officials, as polls show younger frum voters are losing confidence in longtime leaders over issues such as poverty, military conscription, and people leaving the frum community.
