JERUSALEM (VINnews) — An Israeli security source told the Saudi news channel Al Hadath on Sunday that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s assassinated Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, is no longer in Iran. The source did not disclose his current whereabouts or when he allegedly left the country.

The Israeli claim came after messages attributed to Mojtaba were released, in which he criticized the United States and called on the Iranian people to unite. According to the source, however, the statements are not actually being written by Mojtaba, but rather by Ahmad Vahidi and members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who remain in Iran.

If accurate, the claim could indicate an effort by the IRGC to maintain the appearance of a functioning leadership and to bolster Mojtaba’s status as a central figure, even while his actual location remains unknown. However, the report has not been independently confirmed by any additional sources.

The security source also said that deep internal divisions have emerged within Iran’s leadership, threatening the very cohesion of the Revolutionary Guards. According to the source, the infighting has intensified following the assassination of Ali Khamenei and amid the military and diplomatic pressure currently being exerted on Tehran.

The source further alleged that Iran had planned to assassinate Israeli figures in Tel Aviv as part of an effort to avenge the killing of the Iranian leader. He did not specify who the intended targets were, how far the plot had progressed, or whether any suspects connected to the alleged plan had been arrested.

Regarding the position of the U.S. administration, the source claimed that Washington does not want Israel to participate in military operations against Iran, even if Iran attacks Israel. According to the source, this reflects an American effort to keep control of the campaign in its own hands and to prevent further escalation through independent Israeli military action.
