BROOKLYN, N.Y. (July 21, 2026) — Local law enforcement and community safety patrols responded to a violent home invasion in Crown Heights early Monday afternoon after an unidentified intruder forcibly entered a private residence, assaulting a mother while her infant child was present in the home.
According to preliminary reports, the victim’s husband was several blocks away when he received an automated security notification on his mobile device. Upon observing the active altercation through a real-time video feed, he immediately returned to the home to intervene. A physical struggle ensued inside the residence, during which the homeowner managed to disarm the intruder and briefly subdue him before evacuating his wife and child to a secure location outside.
After regaining consciousness, the suspect reclaimed his firearm, snatched a cellular device belonging to one of the victims, and fled the premises on foot. Local neighborhood patrol members quickly initiated a search operation, utilizing mobile location-tracking technology embedded within the stolen phone to monitor the suspect’s movements through surrounding blocks.
Community patrol volunteers pinpointed the individual’s precise location within the jurisdiction of a neighboring police precinct and relayed real-time coordinates to responding officers. Police units surrounded the suspect shortly thereafter, taking him into custody without further incident and recovering the handgun used during the break-in.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently being processed at a local precinct, with formal charges pending. Officials noted that the identity of the individual remains withheld at this time as detective squads continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the break-in.
