JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Iranian media reported that missiles had been launched toward Aqaba, Jordan. Residents of Eilat reported hearing explosions in the city. An Arkia flight en route from Tel Aviv to Eilat altered its course midair after Iran claimed it had fired missiles toward Aqaba. Another flight from Abu Dhabi to Tel Aviv was also delayed while airborne.

Al Jazeera likewise reported hearing explosions in Aqaba as a result of interception attempts. Footage emerging from Eilat appeared to show an impact in an open area in the Eilat Mountains.

At 2:13 p.m., the IDF said that no impact had been identified inside Israeli territory following the launches toward Jordan, adding that no interceptor missiles had been fired by Israel.

The Eilat Municipality said that explosions were heard in the city. “Security forces are still searching the nearby open areas to rule out the possibility of falling debris. As of now, no impacts have been found, and there are no reports of injuries or damage.”

According to experts interviewed by The New York Times, Jordan is playing an increasingly central role in U.S. military operations against Iran. They noted that Washington has relied more heavily on Jordan in the lead-up to the conflict with Iran and during its opening days, as the Pentagon relocated forces from Gulf states to areas considered safer.

On Sunday, U.S. air defense systems intercepted several missiles launched by Iran toward Aqaba, which lies near the Israeli border. Air raid sirens sounded in Jordan at the time, and loud explosions were also heard in Eilat.

At the same time, two Iron Dome interceptors were launched from Israel to destroy falling interception debris after concerns arose that it could land in the Eilat area. The debris was successfully intercepted, and no warning sirens were required in the city.
