NEW YORK (VINnews) – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani continued his rhetoric against Israel during an interview released Saturday, again accusing the country of committing “genocide” in Gaza, one day after a Jewish man was stabbed in Manhattan in what police are investigating as a possible antisemitic attack.

During the interview with The Shade Room, the host praised what he described as Mamdani’s earlier “address at Netanyahu,” asking whether the remarks were intended only for New Yorkers or also for a broader audience.

Mamdani responded that he was speaking to New Yorkers but also to people around the world.

“I also know that there are more than just New Yorkers who have been aghast at this genocide over the last few years, and not only the continued denial of that genocide but also the fact that it continues itself,” Mamdani said. He added that leaders should be honest about “what we believe accountability looks like.”

Although the interviewer referenced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mamdani did not mention Netanyahu by name in his response. Instead, he focused on Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which he again characterized as genocide.

Mamdani has repeatedly accused Israel of committing genocide, an allegation Israel has strongly rejected. Israeli officials say the military campaign is aimed at dismantling Hamas following the group’s Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 people were taken hostage.

The interview comes amid heightened concerns over antisemitism in New York City following the stabbing of a Jewish man in Manhattan and days after renewed criticism of Mamdani from Jewish organizations and political opponents over his comments about Israel.
