BERLIN (VINnews) — A video recorded two days before a deadly vehicle attack on crowds at Berlin’s Pride event allegedly shows the suspect stating he had been deported to Turkey and planned to re-enter Germany through Bulgaria, according to reports circulating Sunday. In other videos, the man allegedly threatened to attack German police officers and Germans.

On Saturday evening, a vehicle drove into crowds gathered for Berlin Pride celebrations in the Tiergarten park near the Brandenburg Gate, killing one person and injuring at least 16 others. Some of the injured were reported in life-threatening condition. Police canceled the remaining events and launched a large-scale manhunt.

Authorities identified the suspect as 21-year-old Abdul B., who was known to Islamist circles in Berlin and had been released from a youth prison in May. He remained at large Sunday as police and prosecutors sought public help locating him, warning that he may be armed and dangerous.

Police described the suspect as slim, approximately 1.9 meters tall, with black hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and white trousers. Officials said he is known to police in connection with local Islamist groups. Investigators have not publicly confirmed a motive.

The attack occurred around 10 p.m. local time when a white van or similar vehicle struck pedestrians before colliding with a tree. The driver fled on foot. Reports indicated some victims may also have been stabbed.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz condemned the incident as an attack on society. A massive police operation involving thousands of officers continued across the capital.
