MONTREAL (VINnews) — A Jewish family said it was subjected to antisemitic harassment at a Montreal park after asking a woman to comply with rules prohibiting dogs in a children’s play area.

The incident occurred Sunday evening at La Fontaine Park, where the family had gathered with visiting relatives. According to Rebel News, several children in the group became frightened after two dogs entered the splash pad and playground area, where posted signs prohibit dogs.

When a member of the family politely told the woman that dogs were not permitted in the area, she allegedly responded, “Jews are not allowed here,” according to video published by Rebel News.

The man called Montreal police and waited for officers to respond. Rebel News reported that the woman later returned and confronted him again, asking where he lived and telling him to “mind your own f***ing business.” She also allegedly made derogatory remarks about his children’s religious school.

According to Rebel News, the family waited more than an hour for police to arrive before leaving the park. A police report was filed Monday.

The man told Rebel News he was shocked by the antisemitic remarks but said members of Montreal’s Jewish community have increasingly become accustomed to such incidents.

Montreal police are investigating the incident and determining whether any charges will be filed, according to Rebel News, which said it contacted the police for comment.
