NEW YORK (VINnews) — A chance workplace friendship at Manchester Airport led two coworkers to discover they were biological siblings who had been separated through adoption more than five decades ago.

According to a report by the BBC, 60-year-old Dave Green and 53-year-old Andrea Ormston worked alongside each other at the airport for nearly two years without realizing they were brother and sister.

Their friendship began after Ormston asked Green if she could park her work vehicle near the bus station where he worked. Green jokingly agreed on one condition—that she bring him a hot chocolate. The lighthearted exchange became a running joke and eventually grew into a close friendship.

As they spent more time together, the pair discovered they shared several interests, including a love of motorcycles. During one conversation, Green mentioned that before being adopted his name had been Stuart Pradlow.

Ormston immediately recognized the name. Further discussion revealed that Green’s date and place of birth matched those of the brother her family had long known had been placed for adoption as a baby.

Green later realized that while working as a bus driver for many years, he had regularly driven past the home of his biological mother in Altrincham, England, without knowing she lived there.

He said another key moment came after he told Ormston about the heartbreak of saying goodbye to a foster child he had cared for and mentioned that he himself had been adopted as a child.

Ormston recalled that her family had often spoken about a brother named Stuart who had been adopted. The two compared details until their relationship was ultimately confirmed.

The siblings later met their biological mother for the first time.

“It was amazing,” Ormston told the BBC. “It was such a surreal moment. There were lots of tears, and then we just hugged. I couldn’t believe I’d managed to reunite my brother with my mum.”

Green said the discovery had changed his outlook on life.

“People don’t just meet like this,” he said. “It’s not something that happens in everyday life, but our lives are no longer ordinary.”

He added that since the reunion, he has come to appreciate that relationships are far more valuable than material possessions.
