Ted Cruz Warns Democrats Have Been Overtaken by ‘Communists,’ Says Nation Faces ‘Deep Trouble’
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is sounding the alarm over what he believes is a dramatic ideological shift within the Democratic Party, arguing that it has been overtaken by communists and warning that the trend poses a serious threat to the country.
Appearing Tuesday on Newsmax’s “Rob Schmitt Tonight,” Cruz singled out New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as an example of that transformation.
“Comrade Mamdani in New York is a full-on communist,” Cruz said on “Rob Schmitt Tonight.” “He’s not a socialist. He is a communist.
“If you look at the candidates he endorsed … they embrace communism, they embrace Islamism, and they openly hate America,” Cruz said. “Trump Derangement Syndrome, I think, is a real medical condition. They hate [President] Donald Trump so much that it is driving them to crazy town.”
Cruz said some Republicans view the Democrats’ leftward shift as a political advantage, but he rejected that outlook, saying he is deeply concerned about the long-term consequences for the nation.
“Some Republicans are celebrating saying: ‘OK, good. They’re so extreme. We’re going to win the general election,'” Cruz continued. “I actually don’t put myself in that camp, because I don’t want one of our two major parties to be absolutely frigging nuts.”
According to Cruz, the growing influence of socialism and communism within the Democratic Party is harmful to the country, regardless of its political implications.
Cruz called what he described as the takeover of the Democratic Party by socialists and communists “bad for America.”
“Eventually, these lunatics will win,” Cruz said.
The Texas senator also pointed to Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, noting that the progressive contender has received the endorsement of left-wing political commentator Hasan Piker.
Cruz, who said that Piker blames America for the 9/11 attacks, lamented that this is where the “heart and energy and base” of the Democratic Party has gone.
He went on to argue that positions he views as mainstream—such as securing the southern border, prosecuting criminals, preventing transgender women from competing in women’s sports, and opposing gender-transition procedures for minors—have become unacceptable to much of today’s Democratic Party.
“That’s just an indication just to show how ridiculous it’s gotten. … They [Democrats] now stand for letting criminals go, letting murderers go, letting rapists go, letting child molesters go,” he said.
Cruz concluded by cautioning Republicans against becoming complacent, emphasizing that political power inevitably shifts over time and warning of the consequences if Democrats regain control while, in his view, embracing increasingly radical positions.
“You shouldn’t celebrate it, because this country is a pendulum,” Cruz added. “We swing back and forth. Democrats are going to win again.”
“I don’t know if it’s going to be in this election cycle or the next, but they will win again,” Cruz said. “And if they’re all insane, if they’re all like this, the country is in deep trouble.”
