A 17-year-old bochur is in serious condition after nearly drowning Tuesday evening in the private swimming pool at his family’s home in Tzfas. Emergency personnel provided life-saving treatment at the scene before transporting him to Ziv Medical Center, where he was admitted in critical condition, sedated and on a ventilator.

Magen David Adom said it received a report at 9:39 p.m. of an unconscious teenager at a residence on Golan Street in Tzfas. Initial indications were that the bochur had lost consciousness due to an apparent medical episode while in the pool. He was pulled from the water before emergency responders arrived.

United Hatzalah medic Yechiel Roshetsky, who was first on the scene, together with fellow responders Yossi Markowitz and Chaim Meir Rothner, said, “Together with additional volunteers, we provided him with initial medical treatment, including respiratory assistance. He was then transported to Ziv Medical Center in Tzfas while sedated and on a ventilator in serious condition.”

MDA paramedic Oren Ne’eman and MDA motorcycle unit volunteer Ronen Hadassi said, “We found the teenager unconscious after he apparently lost consciousness due to a medical episode while in the family’s swimming pool and was pulled from the water. We provided life-saving medical treatment and transported him to the hospital in serious condition.”

The circumstances surrounding the apparent medical episode are under investigation.
