United Airlines plans to resume nonstop service between Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport on September 8th, restoring one of the busiest air links between the New York metropolitan area and Tel Aviv after months of suspension due to the recent wars.

The Chicago-based carrier said it intends to operate two daily nonstop flights from Newark after repeatedly halting service following the closure of Israeli airspace to most commercial traffic earlier this year during the conflict between Israel and Iran. Since then, Ben Gurion Airport has fully reopened, and an increasing number of international airlines have resumed operations.

American Airlines recently announced that it will not resume flights to and from Israel before March 27, 2027, while Delta’s New York and Atlanta routes to Tel Aviv are expected to resume September 5.

The return of United’s Newark-Tel Aviv service is expected to provide a significant boost for travelers across New Jersey and the broader New York region, home to one of the nation’s largest Jewish communities and a substantial number of business, family and religious travelers with ties to Israel.

Before the war broke out, United offered 14 weekly flights from the New York/New Jersey area, as well as flights from a number of additional U.S. cities.

United’s announcement comes as airlines continue to cautiously restore flights to Israel after months of disruptions caused by heightened regional security concerns. While several foreign carriers have resumed service, others have delayed their return as they continue monitoring conditions in the region.

The Newark route has long served as one of United’s premier international connections, offering direct access between the New York area and Israel.
