United Airlines will once again offer nonstop flights between the New York area and Tel Aviv beginning September 8, restoring service from Newark Liberty International Airport to Ben Gurion Airport after months of cancellations tied to the regional conflict.

“United still plans to resume service between Newark and Tel Aviv on Sept. 8 with two daily flights,” the US airline says in an e-mailed statement.

The carrier had suspended the route through September 7 after repeatedly halting flights to Israel following the February 28 closure of Israeli airspace to most commercial aviation at the start of the U.S.-Israel war with Iran. Since then, Ben Gurion Airport has fully reopened, and international airlines have gradually begun restoring their schedules.

American Airlines announced last week that it will continue its suspension of Israel service until March 27, 2027. Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines has extended the cancellation of its nonstop flights from New York and Atlanta to Tel Aviv through September 5.

With major U.S. airlines sidelined for much of the conflict, passengers seeking nonstop service between Israel and the United States have largely been limited to Israeli carriers El Al and Arkia.

United’s return in early September is expected to provide much-needed additional capacity for travelers heading to Israel before the busy Yom Tov season, which begins with Rosh Hashanah on the evening of September 11 and traditionally brings a surge in visitors.
