GREENVILLE, N.Y. (VINnews) — Police searched communities across New York’s Orange County on Friday for a man wanted in connection with a homicide and suspected arson after a man’s body was found inside a burning home, warning the public that the suspect is armed and dangerous.

New York State Police identified the suspect as Thomas David Ryan, 32, of Greenville, and urged residents not to approach him if spotted. Authorities believe Ryan is driving a gray 2016 Toyota Prius with New York license plate HNH-7671.

The investigation began about 7:30 p.m. Thursday when troopers responded to a reported structure fire on Greenville Turnpike in the town of Greenville. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, investigators found the body of a deceased man inside the residence.

Police said the fire was deliberately set and are investigating the death as a homicide.

Capt. Brad Natalizio of the State Police Troop F Bureau of Criminal Investigation said investigators are pursuing every available lead with assistance from local, county and federal law enforcement agencies.

The search includes neighboring police departments, crime analysis centers, transportation partners and aviation resources.

State Police also asked Greenville residents to review home surveillance footage recorded between about 6 p.m. Thursday and the overnight hours for any suspicious activity.

Authorities warned that Ryan should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him or the vehicle is urged not to approach him and instead call 911 immediately or contact the New York State Police Troop F Communications Center at 845-344-5300.
