Hasmonean Brigade Soldier Seriously Injured During Alleged Weapons-Play Incident
JERUSALEM (VINnews) — A Golani Brigade soldier in training from the Hasmonean Brigade was seriously wounded Tuesday evening in an apparent weapons-related accident at the Tabbatz base in the Jordan Valley. The soldier, a Chabad Hasid, was evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment, and his family was notified.
Following the incident, an investigation by the IDF Military Police Criminal Investigations Division (MPCID) was opened. According to an initial IDF inquiry, first reported by Kan News, the incident occurred at around 9 p.m., when soldiers undergoing training in the Hasmonean Brigade were given personal time before lights-out and bedtime.
Three soldiers entered their room and locked the door. According to the preliminary findings, they allegedly played with their weapons, competing to see who could cock his weapon more quickly.
One of the soldiers, according to the initial inquiry, inserted a magazine into his weapon, continued playing, disengaged the safety, and pulled the trigger. The bullet struck another soldier, seriously injuring him.
