Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan have unveiled a landmark mutual defense agreement committing each nation to come to the aid of the others if any member is attacked, marking a major realignment in regional security as tensions with Iran continue to mount.

The newly announced alliance establishes that an attack against one of the three countries will be treated as an attack against all, creating a formal framework for collective military support among the signatories.

The agreement was revealed following a summit in Mecca and is already being described by observers as one of the most consequential security arrangements in the region in years. Many analysts believe the pact is designed in large part to discourage Iranian aggression as instability across the Middle East continues to grow.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally signed the accord during their meeting. In a joint statement, the leaders said the partnership is aimed at expanding military collaboration, reinforcing shared security interests, and advancing stability throughout the region.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry emphasized that the agreement requires the other member states to provide assistance if any of the three nations comes under attack. According to the ministry, the alliance is intended to create a powerful deterrent by making it clear that any aggression against one signatory would prompt a unified response.

Regional experts say the pact sends a strong strategic signal to Iran while simultaneously enhancing Saudi Arabia’s defensive position through closer military coordination with Turkey and Pakistan, two of the region’s most capable armed forces.

Iranian officials quickly criticized the agreement. Ebrahim Rezaei, a member of Iran’s parliamentary National Security Committee, wrote on X, “Saudis must know that a paper agreement with Turkey and Pakistan will not bring them security, just as years of one-sided nursing to the Americans did not bring them security. Reform your policies so that you do not need to beg for security from others.”
