[Video below.] New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani says he has no plans to seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028, insisting the party’s focus should be on reconnecting with working-class Americans rather than searching for a new national standard-bearer.

Speaking during an interview on SiriusXM’s Urban View, Mamdani was asked whether he intended to run for president in the next election cycle. He quickly dismissed the idea.

“Well, first of all, not me,” Mamdani responded when asked about a potential 2028 campaign.

Instead, Mamdani argued that Democrats do not need to reinvent themselves but should return to the principles that once defined the party.

“I think we have a number of choices,” he said, adding that the Democratic Party’s priority should be addressing the financial struggles facing everyday Americans.

According to Mamdani, the party should concentrate on making life more affordable for working families rather than pursuing a dramatic political transformation or ideological overhaul.

His remarks come as speculation has grown over who could emerge as the Democratic nominee following the next presidential election cycle. While Mamdani has become one of the party’s most recognizable progressive figures since taking office as New York City mayor, he made clear that he does not see himself as a 2028 contender.

Instead, the mayor suggested Democrats should focus less on finding a new political identity and more on advancing policies aimed at reducing the cost of living and improving economic opportunities for working people.
