NEW YORK (VINnews) — Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Tuesday that his wife, Rama Duwaji, will travel to Syria and Lebanon next month without an NYPD security detail.
Mamdani told PIX11 that a “miscommunication” led to conflicting statements from City Hall and the police department over whether officers would accompany Duwaji.
“She has not yet taken that trip and when she takes that trip it will be without any NYPD detail,” Mamdani said, according to the New York Post.
The clarification came after the NYPD said it does not send officers to countries under Level 4 U.S. travel advisories for discretionary trips that are not connected to investigative work.
Duwaji is expected to visit family in Syria and Lebanon beginning Sept. 20. Both countries are subject to U.S. travel warnings.
