Major improvements along Ocean Avenue beside Prospect Park are continuing to take shape, with the first phase of the project nearing completion and a new protected bike lane expected to open soon.

Phase 1 of the project, focused on the northern end of the Ocean Avenue perimeter, is wrapping up as crews continue work aimed at making access to Prospect Park safer and improving the surrounding streetscape.

The project is being funded with support from the NYC Mayor’s Office, NYC Department of Transportation, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and Council Member Rita Joseph.

In addition to the protected bike lane, the improvements will include new trees, benches and other street furniture, which are expected to be installed by late fall.

As construction progresses southward, work will move into Phase 2, which includes the restoration of the Lincoln Road entrance to Prospect Park.

During that portion of the project, the Lincoln Road entrance will be temporarily closed, with park visitors redirected to another entrance located a few minutes farther south.

Officials say the overall project is designed to improve safety and accessibility along the Ocean Avenue side of Prospect Park while upgrading the park's perimeter for pedestrians, cyclists and other visitors.
