NEW YORK (VINnews) — A casual encounter at a supermarket in France escalated into an alleged antisemitic confrontation after an Irish tourist reportedly told a Jewish couple that he was sorry Hitler had not “finished the job” and later threatened to shoot them.

Karen Ivers, who recorded the incident, shared the video on X, where it quickly went viral, amassing nearly one million views within hours.

According to Ivers, the encounter began when the man approached the couple after noticing her husband wearing a French national football team shirt and hearing them speak English.

“The man from Ireland approached us because my husband was wearing a French football team shirt, and he also heard us speaking English,” Ivers wrote. “He joked, asking, ‘Why is an Englishman wearing a French shirt?’ My husband replied that he was Australian but liked the shirt, and since we were traveling around France, he was happy to wear it.”

Ivers said the conversation was initially cordial. The man introduced himself as “Paddy from Ireland,” and the group exchanged names and shook hands before discussing Irish football.

The conversation later turned to politics. Ivers said she told the man that her objection was not to Ireland’s football team but to what she described as Ireland’s anti-Israel political climate and support among some groups for Hamas and Hezbollah.

According to her account, the man’s demeanor changed, and he allegedly remarked that he was sorry Hitler had not “finished the job.”

WARNING: Expletives and violent language

The video begins after the alleged comment, with Ivers repeatedly asking him to repeat what he had said.

“Are you glad Hitler didn’t finish the job? Go on, say it again, Paddy,” she is heard saying. She then turns to the camera and says, “The Irishman just told us he’s sorry that Hitler didn’t finish the job.”

The man replies, “You’re in Europe here.”

As Ivers continues urging him to repeat the alleged remark, the confrontation escalates. The man then threatens her, saying, “Get away from me before I put a bullet in your head.”

While the alleged Hitler comment is not captured on the recording itself, Ivers describes it immediately after it was allegedly made. The death threat, however, is clearly audible in the video.

Afterward, Ivers posted the footage on X with the caption: “Make this Irish Nazi psychopath famous.”

The video has since been widely shared across social media, drawing attention to both the alleged antisemitic remark and the explicit death threat that followed.
