Israeli Police Still Seeking Answers in Mother-Daughter Disappearance

Aug 16, 2026·1 min read

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Israeli authorities still do not know what prompted Mali and Liel Yahalomi to leave Austria and travel to Argentina, despite an international investigation that ultimately located the mother and daughter safely, police spokesman Ariyeh Doron said Sunday.

Speaking to Kan Reshet Bet, Doron said investigators have so far found no evidence of an unusual or criminal incident connected to the disappearance. He said authorities are aware of only minor financial debts at this stage.

The women were found in Argentina after police traced their movements across several countries. Israeli investigators worked with international law enforcement agencies as part of the search.

Doron described the case as an unusually complex investigation that required intelligence gathering and coordination across multiple countries.

He also explained the decision to release footage of the women after they were located. With widespread concern in Israel over their disappearance, police wanted the public to see that the two had been found safe.

The investigation remains open, with authorities continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding their departure and their movements before they were located in South America.
