WATCH: Yossi Green Composes New Song in Minutes After Being Challenged by Mir Rosh Yeshiva
[Video below.] Hundreds of talmidim from Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim witnessed an unusual musical moment this past week when renowned composer Yossi Green was unexpectedly challenged by the rosh yeshiva, Rav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel, to compose an entirely new song on the spot.
The remarkable scene unfolded during the Mir Yeshiva’s bein hazemanim camp in Shaalavim, where hundreds of talmidim gathered for a special musical program featuring Yossi Green.
Yossi led the bochurim in an uplifting kumzitz lasting approximately two hours, filled with singing and niggunim in the spirited atmosphere of bein hazemanim.
The highlight of the evening came with the arrival of Rav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel. The rosh yeshiva surprised Yossi with an unusual request: He handed him a note containing words and asked him to create a new melody for them then and there, in front of the hundreds of assembled bochurim.

Yossi accepted the challenge and sat down at the keyboard, beginning the creative process in real time as the crowd watched.
Within just a few minutes, the new tune had taken shape. The bochurim quickly joined Yossi in singing the freshly composed melody, filling the hall with the song that had been created moments earlier.
Rav Finkel’s reaction, and the visible emotion on his face as the new composition came to life, helped turn the spontaneous performance into one of the memorable highlights of the evening.
The program continued with spirited singing and an uplifting atmosphere, with the newly created song becoming an immediate part of the kumzitz. For those present, it was a rare opportunity not merely to hear a new composition, but to watch the actual creative process unfold before their eyes and then join in singing the result almost immediately.
