Firefighter Seriously Injured in Two-Alarm Hamilton Heights Top-Floor Blaze

HAMILTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan — A firefighter was seriously injured while battling a fire that broke out on the top floor of a residential building in Hamilton Heights, according to the FDNY.

Firefighters were dispatched to 3657 Broadway shortly after 6:15 p.m. Sunday following reports of a fire on the roof, officials said.

The blaze was quickly elevated to a two-alarm response as crews worked to contain the flames. Firefighters brought the fire under control at approximately 7:45 p.m.

One firefighter suffered serious injuries, while three others sustained minor injuries, officials said. A civilian was also hurt. All of the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Citizen footage showed intense flames engulfing the top floor while firefighters worked from the roof to bring the blaze under control.

Officials had not immediately determined what caused the fire.
