Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Monday signed an executive order creating the Mayor’s Office of Worker Power, which City Hall says is the first office of its kind in the nation. The new office will focus on helping New York City workers learn about their rights, connect with worker organizations and have a greater voice in workplace issues. It will also hold public hearings, work with city agencies on labor-related research and policy, and address issues including wage violations, worker misclassification, new technology and workplace safety. Labor organizer and former longshoreman Tony Perlstein has been appointed to lead the office.
