Good evening from Jerusalem, where we celebrated at a Bar Mitzvah yesterday and spent a surreal Shabbos with family, rejoicing over the news that Iran’s regime leadership had been eliminated, but also rushing in and out of safe rooms all day as Iran’s missiles and Israel’s defensive measures fought in the skies above us.
I shared some of our experiences today on our Instagram stories.
With G-d’s help, Israel and the US will help bring true peace to the Middle East and the world. We pray for the mission’s success and for everyone in harm’s way.
Israeli airspace is closed until at least noon (10am UTC) on Tuesday, 3/3.
Jordanian airspace is also closed, so for those who need to leave Israel now, traveling down to Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh/SSH is the best option. Airports in Abu Dhabi and Dubai have also been under Iranian attack, as have several other Middle Eastern countries, so the safest bet for now is to shelter in place.
If you are a foreigner in Israel, you can register each member of your party here with Chaim V’Chessed for a rescue flight out of the country. The more people who sign up for one, the more likely it is that evacuation flights will be prioritized.
El Al has paused flight sales through 3/21 to prioritize space for existing ticket holders.

Update, 3/23: Many foreign carriers have extended their cancellation dates, including Air France, LOT, and more. Delta has officially cancelled flights through 5/31, and United has officially cancelled flights through 6/14. Cancellation dates have been updated below.
Arkia announced that due to the new rules, they will be moving most of their flights to Aqaba, Jordan, and Taba, Egypt. They will only offer very limited service from Tel Aviv to Athens and Larnaca. Their schedule for this week will be published shortly.
Israir announced they will only serve Athens, Larnaca, Rome, Tbilisi, and Addis Ababa. They will be cancelling existing reservations to other cities made through April 8th.
Air Haifa will continue operating from Tel Aviv, with flights to Athens and Larnaca.
El Al announced that they will only fly a small number of flights to New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Paris, Rome, and Athens. They are updating their schedule and will then notify affected passengers. El Al seat availability from Tel Aviv will be down 95% from normal.
El Al is also asking the Israeli government to reopen Eilat/ETM Airport to process more passengers in and out of the country.
“EL AL calls for the opening of Ramon Airport as a complementary alternative to Ben‑Gurion Airport, in order to maintain aviation activity and support the needs of the traveling public.”
Are you trying to fly from Israel to the US before Pesach? Will you travel via Egypt or Jordan due to the new restrictions?
Update, 3/22 at 6pm: The new restrictions are confirmed and will go into effect Monday at 5pm Israel time. The full protocol will be sent to airlines Monday morning, and airlines will begin cancelling people after that point.
Update, 3/22 at 3pm: After pressure from aviation officials to close Israeli airspace completely, Israeli media is reporting that the number of passengers allowed per flight from Tel Aviv will be reduced to just 50 passengers starting tomorrow. Additionally, the number of flight takeoffs per hour will be reduced from 2 per hour to 1 per hour starting tomorrow. Considering that widebody aircraft have required 2 slots this month, it’s unclear what this will mean for widebody flights.
Flights to Israel are not subject to any passenger cap, but will face significantly reduced flight landing slots. It may also be very difficult to find a flight from Israel if outbound caps remain in place.
Expect many flight reservations to be cancelled in the coming days.
Alternate options include flights from airports like Taba/TCP, Sharm/SSH, and Cairo/CAI in Egypt and Amman/AMM and Aqaba/AQJ in Jordan. Many of the pros and cons of these options and tips are discussed in this DDF Thread and on the DansDeals Facebook Group.
Note that in the past, some people have reported that religious articles (Talis, Tefillin, Seforim) have been confiscated when entering or leaving Jordan. Generally, this has been reported to happen when they are visible outside of baggage, so be sure all religious articles are packed away when entering and leaving Jordan or Egypt!
Update, 3/18 at 5pm: After 3 private planes were damaged by Iranian missiles at Ben Gurion Airport, Israel will no longer allow full flights to the US.
Effective immediately through at least Saturday evening, US flights are capped to 130 passengers per flight. El Al’s 787-9 Dreamliners have a capacity of 293 passengers, so that means many passengers will be receiving cancellation notices shortly.

When Israel previously lowered the cap from 200 to 100, the airport scene was extremely chaotic. I’d expect that to be the case over the coming days as well.
El Al has shared the following update,
“Following a directive from the Home Front Command to reduce the number of passengers departing on flights to the United States by 50%, to approximately 130 passengers per flight, about half of the passengers currently booked on these flights are expected to receive cancellation notifications. We apologize for the inconvenience and recommend that customers who wish to depart as soon as possible consider alternative travel options.
Passengers whose flights are canceled will be eligible for a full refund or a voucher.
In addition, due to the new Home Front Command restrictions, EL AL is currently suspending the assignment of additional passengers to flights to the United States.
At the same time, no changes are currently expected to flights from the United States to Israel.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused and continue to work closely with the relevant authorities. EL AL is prepared to respond immediately to any changes in the Home Front Command guidelines in order to increase the number of flights and passengers.”

Update, 3/17: Delta has stopped sales on Israel flights until 6/1, and United has stopped sales of Newark-Tel Aviv flights until 6/15 and other Tel Aviv flights until September. Expect official cancellations to follow in the coming days.
Update, 3/15: Israeli media is reporting that a tentative deal will allow all flights from Israel to the US to operate at full capacity starting tomorrow! Flights to Europe will be allowed to carry up to 170 passengers.
Currently, flights are capped at just 100 passengers, which has caused many foreigners to be unable to find a flight back home.
An El Al spokesperson said they are closely watching developments and will make an announcement once they are confirmed by the government to the airline.
In the meantime, El Al has closed sales of flights from Tel Aviv through April 15th.

Update, 3/7: The US government has started offering evacuation flights to some people who have filled out the Crisis intake form and the Chaim V’Chessed form. These flights are free of charge and won’t be billed later on, as opposed to the rescue flights after the 10/7 massacre.
Update, 3/6: Air Haifa, Arkia, and Israir are now selling flights from Tel Aviv to Europe starting on Sunday, 3/8! You can book flights on their sites or from a travel agent.
El Al is assigning seats on the flight starting Sunday based on the order of previous cancellations.

Arkia is selling flights between Taba, Egypt, and Athens, Larnaca, and Rome for travel in either direction over the next few days. If those flights sell out, expect more dates to be added.
Passengers arriving in Taba and crossing the border into Israel will find Egged buses outside the terminal to Eilat Central Bus Station, Be’er Sheva Central Bus Station, Ben Gurion Airport (long-term parking), and Tel Aviv Savidor Center.
Israel also announced that the Taba border crossing between Eilat and Taba will be open 24/7 to allow for people to enter and exit the country at all hours.

While Delta and United have killed off their award charts and increased miles needed for flights, American has retained published partner award charts, though their own flights are now dynamic.
When Delta and United eliminated their close-in award booking fees, they increased the miles needed for flights. American also removed their close-in booking fees, but they haven’t yet increased the miles needed for close-in flights.

Virgin Atlantic switched from an award chart to dynamic pricing. Close-in pricing is expensive, and you’re better off booking Virgin flights on partner programs like Flying Blue. But there are also excellent values available in the new program.
Partner award pricing is unchanged and there are some notable sweet spots on partner airlines.
Date changes or cancellations cost the lower of taxes paid or $100 (£70, about $90, if originating in UK).

Virgin Atlantic points can be a bargain for flying on Delta, though after several devaluations, it’s not what it used to be.
There are still some domestic bargains, though Delta often blocks partner award space within 3 weeks of a flight.
For example, a flight from NYC to Cleveland will be 7.5K Virgin points in main cabin with wide open availability, as long as you book 3 weeks in advance:
A zone 1 JFK-Cleveland coach ticket is 7.5K Virgin points (5,769 points with a 30% bonus) or 21K points (16,153 points with a 30% bonus) in first class, which is significantly cheaper than with Delta miles:

Infant lap child awards on international flights are a bargain. While Delta charges 10% of the paid fare, which can be astronomical on one-way flights, Virgin charges just 1,000 points in coach or 5,000 points in business class each way:
Cancellations and changes officially cost $50, but are capped at the taxes paid, so are just $5.60 for a domestic one-way.
You can fly on Air New Zealand between Australia or Pacific Islands and New Zealand for 15K points (11,538 with a 30% bonus) in business class, between Asia and New Zealand for 40K points (30,769 with a 30% bonus) in business class, between Hawaii and New Zealand for 45K points (34,615 with a 30% bonus) in business class, and between the US48 and New Zealand for 62.5K points (48,076 with a 30% bonus) in business class with no fuel surcharges.

DansDeals1 day agoJetBlue has been downgrading Mosaic benefits for several years.
For 2025, they removed most Mosaic benefits from Basic fares and free Blade helicopter transfers from Mosaic 4.
For 2026, they reduced free alcoholic beverages, Mosaic 1 free bags, and Mosaic 2-4 extra legroom companions.
For 2027, there are several more downgrades and program complexity, but the introduction of BlueFirst will allow JetBlue to balance them with, well, actual upgrades.
Mosaic members will be eligible for free space-available upgrades to BlueFirst, with up to 1 companion. Mosaics who pay with a JetBlue card will have upgrade priority, followed by those who paid for extra legroom seating and then their current Tile balance.
Premier primary cardholders and authorized users who pay for the ticket on their card will also be upgrade eligible, if there’s still space after all Mosaic members and their companions have been upgraded. Upgrades aren’t available for partner airline elites.
Basic fares are ineligible for upgrades.
Upgrades will only start clearing an hour before departure, while the competition’s upgrade windows are up to 5 days before departure. Unlike with other airlines, upgrades won’t come with an additional checked bag allowance.
There are several downgrades, effective 2/1/27.
Currently, at 10, 20, 30, and 40 tiles, you can pick perks like 5,000 points, a free alcoholic beverage on all your flights, early boarding on all your flights, or priority security on all your flights.
Next year that will change to 1,000 points, 2 bonus tiles, early boarding on 1 flight, a free alcoholic beverage on 1 flight, or priority security on 1 flight. You can select the same perk more than once.
Ouch.
Currently, when you reach every new Mosaic level, you can select from 15K points, a 20 tile bonus, a 20 tile gift, a $99 statement credit on JetBlue cards, IHG Platinum status, FoundersCard Blue membership, a pet fee waiver, or Mint Suite priority.
Next year, at Mosaic 1 (50 tiles), that will be downgraded to just 10K points, a 10 tile bonus for your current or following year, or a single-use BlueHouse Pass. If you have a Premier card, you can also choose from a 10 tile gift. The statement credit, pet fee waiver, IHG status, FoundersCard membership, and Mint Suite priority options will be removed.
Next year, at Mosaic 2 (100 tiles), you can select 10K points or a 10 tile bonus for your current or following year, a single-use BlueHouse Pass, or 1 premium upgrade certificate. If you have a Premier card, you can also choose from a gift of Mosaic 1 status.
Next year, at Mosaic 3 (150 tiles), you can select 20K points or a 20 tile bonus for your current or following year, a single-use BlueHouse Pass, or 1 premium upgrade certificate. If you have a Premier card, you can also choose from a gift of Mosaic 2 status or a companion travel benefit up to a $500 statement credit.
Next year, at Mosaic 4 (250 tiles), you can select 30K points, a 30 tile bonus for the following year, a single-use BlueHouse Pass, 1 premium upgrade certificate, a gift of Mosaic 3 status, or a gift of one year of BlueHouse membership to another member. If you have a Premier card, you can also choose a companion travel benefit up to a $1,500 statement credit.
You will now only have 60 days to select a perk after reaching each milestone before it expires.
You can select the same perk multiple times. Mosaic 2 members and above will also get a pet fee waiver starting next year as a signature perk. Mosaic 3 and 4 members with a Premier card will earn 5 points per dollar at restaurants and grocery stores, on up to $50K of combined purchases per calendar year.
Move to Mint certificates are now premium upgrade certificates, with a variable cost for confirmed upgrades to BlueFirst or Mint between 1 and 4 certificates. Mosaic 2 members can select 1 certificate as a perk from 100 tiles. After earning 150 tiles, Mosaic 3 members automatically earn 4 certificates. Mosaic 4 members automatically earn another 4 certificates after hitting 250 tiles.
Notably, JetBlue 25 for 25 Mosaic 1 members get hit with a downgrade for the 2nd year in a row. Last year they saw a reduction of free alcoholic beverages and bags, and this year they’ll see a reduction of the perk they can pick from 15K points or 20 tiles to just 10K points or 10 tiles. They will also be lower on the upgrade list due to having fewer current tiles.

Starlink is a real game-changer in the skies, offering low-latency, high-speed internet that allows for real productivity and streaming in-flight like never before.
Airlines that add it have seen their Net Promoter Scores double. For now, airlines that have it have a competitive advantage, but pretty soon, airlines without it will find themselves left behind as passengers book away from them.
United has created a very cool Starlink tracker site, where you can watch the progress as it outfits its fleet with free high-speed WiFi. You can also check if your upcoming flight will have Starlink within a few days of travel. As of today, some 47% of United’s departures have Starlink, though that skews heavily towards regional and narrowbody fleets. The airline plans to complete the fleetwide installation in 2027.
Someone vibe-coded a Delta Starlink tracker to troll that airline, which chose to go with Amazon Leo over Starlink. That service doesn’t yet exist.
There has been anger about that on social media, with Elon Musk suggesting that Delta CEO Ed Bastian would eventually lose his job over that decision. That came after reports alleged that Mr. Bastian said he wouldn’t do any business with Mr. Musk, a claim Mr. Bastian denied, pointing to his own personal Tesla.
United has also launched a special elite status match challenge to capture disgruntled American and Delta elites. There are pros and cons of this challenge versus the regular United challenge.
You have to apply for the Starlink challenge by 10/22. You’ll have your status matched for 90 days and can earn status through 1/31/28 if you complete the challenge. Your status will be updated within 1-3 business days of approval.
Best of all, while United only allows for a challenge every 3 years, this challenge is an exception and will work even if you have done a recent challenge and even if you are currently enrolled in another challenge!
Note that only flights will count. Other purchases like travel add-ons, as well as taxes and fees for purchased flights, do not count toward spend.

It’s worth comparing this offer to the regular United status match challenge, which has a higher spending and a minimum flight segment requirement, but with 120 days to earn them. The regular challenge also works with many more airlines than AA or Delta. With the regular challenge, your status will be good through 1/31/28 if you complete it in 2026, but if you wait to complete the requirements until 2027, your status will last through 1/31/29. You can only take this challenge once every 3 years.

Update, 10/22/26: Delta confirms with DansDeals that 2027 elite requirements (to earn status for the 2028 Medallion Year) will remain unchanged for the 3rd year in a row. Apparently, Delta is still scarred from the backlash to their 2023 to massively increase requirements, which they had to backtrack from?
This compares favorably with the hefty new United elite requirements.
Update, 8/26/25: Delta has announced that for the 2nd year in a row, there will be no changes to MQD requirements. In 2026, you can once again earn Silver with 5K MQDs, Gold with 10K MQDs, Platinum with 15K MQDs, and Diamond with 28K MQDs, with status running through 1/31/28.
Then again, with the airline now selling some 90% of domestic first class seats, compared to just 10% in years past, status just isn’t what it used to be, though people do still get value from status. Still, the lack of increased requirements is surprising based on what Delta attempted to require just 2 years ago, before backtracking. Combined with headstart MQDs from Delta cards, it’s never been easier to earn status from your couch.
Delta’s choice benefits will change, with improvements to the options for gifting status, miles, and vouchers, but a downgrade to the AMEX statement credit option:

In September 2023, Delta made national headlines when it announced a massive jump in elite status requirements.
To their credit, they backtracked a month later, rolling back most of the increases and adding other benefits to hold onto customers who threatened to jump to American or United.
One of those added benefits was adding a 2,500 MQD headstart to the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card, Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card, Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card, and Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card.
That meant you could earn Delta status without taking a single flight or even spending on your cards!
You can read about Delta status benefits here, which include bonus miles on flights, upgrades, elite call centers, free and expedited checked baggage, waived same-day flight changes, priority boarding, choice benefits, and more.
While United raised status requirements this year, Delta kept its requirements the same.
Here’s how you can earn Delta status faster with Delta cards:
If you want Silver status through 1/31/27, you need 5,000 MQDs.
If you want Gold status through 1/31/27, you need 10,000 MQDs.
If you want Platinum status through 1/31/27, you need 15,000 MQDs.
If you want Diamond status through 1/31/27, you need 28,000 MQDs.
Of course, those numbers will be lower if you also earn MQDs from flying on paid or award tickets. Basic economy tickets don’t earn MQDs or million miler status.
You can pay federal taxes and estimated taxes on an AMEX card in 2025 for a 1.85% fee via ACI Payments.
While there are cards that are more rewarding for your spending than Delta cards, if you want Delta elite status, it can be worth putting tax payments on your Delta cards.
If you overpay your taxes, you can also claim a cash refund on your tax return.
If you are spending for status, you may want to take advantage of an every-other-year strategy rather than spending every year.
In other words, if you spend your way to status in 2025, you’ll keep the status through 1/31/27.
That means you can skip spending in 2026, when you’ll already have status. If you spend in 2026, your status would be extended to 1/31/28.
But if you spend in January 2027, your status will be extended through 1/31/29. Of course with this strategy, if you can’t finish the spending in January, your status would drop until you are able to meet the spending requirements.
If you have status on another airline, another option is taking a status match challenge.
Delta will match the status of non-partner airlines up to Platinum. You get status for 90 days and if you complete the challenge, you’ll keep the status through 1/31/27.
You can’t enroll in a challenge if you have taken one since 2022.
You’ll have 3 months with the matched status to earn 1,250 MQDs to keep Silver, 2,500 MQDs to keep Gold, or 3,750 MQDs to keep Platinum. You can’t earn a status higher than what you matched from, but you can keep a lower status if you fall short of the level you matched from.
While headstart MQDs don’t count for the status match challenge, spending on the Platinum or Reserve cards does count.
You do need to take 1 Delta-marketed flight (excluding Basic Economy) during the Match Period.
If you have a Delta SkyMiles Reserve Consumer AMEX or Delta Reserve Business AMEX, you’ll have to spend $12,500 to keep Silver, $25,000 to keep Gold, or $37,500 to keep Platinum as those cards earn 1 MQD per $10 spent.
If you have a Delta SkyMiles Platinum or Delta Platinum Business, you’ll have to spend $25,000 to keep Silver, $50,000 to keep Gold, or $75,000 to keep Platinum as those cards earn 1 MQD per $20 spent.
Those numbers will be lower if you also earn MQDs from flying on paid or award tickets. Basic economy tickets don’t earn MQDs or million miler status.
Of course, the annual fees for these cards do add up, but there are other card benefits that can help cover those fees. Plus, Platinum and Diamond medallions can select a $400 or $700 respective statement credit on their Delta Platinum or Reserve cards with their choice benefits.

Not long ago, elite status meant easy complimentary upgrades to first class. Airlines have become far more adept at selling first class seats and upgrades, which means fewer free upgrades going to elites, though upgrade certificates
There are definitely still benefits to having status, especially in irregular operations when airlines take care of their elites, but it’s certainly not what it used to be. Then again, you didn’t used to be able to earn status from spending or just having the right cards!

You can keep your laptop and small liquids inside your carry-on. And you go through a good old fashioned metal detector instead of assuming the position in the body scanner. If you charge it on your Platinum card the fee will be refunded.
It costs $120 to apply for a 5 year Global Entry membership which lets you bypass the customs line. If you have Global Entry you also get TSA Pre-Check for free. If you charge it on your Platinum card the fee will be refunded. Kids can now apply for Global Entry for free with parents who are part of the program.

My favorite AMEX benefit is return protection. If you need to return an item up to $300 and a store won’t take it back due to a time limit or final sale return policy, AMEX will gladly refund you in full thanks to return protection.
Nearly all of the time you’ll even be able to keep the item you want to return! This benefit is valid for $1,000 of returns per card per calendar year.
Additional user cards are available at no cost and also get their own $1,000 per year return protection allowance!
Additionally, if a store charges a restocking fee to return an item then AMEX will cover that cost, up to $300/item, as part of their return protection coverage.

Now this is a card refresh I can get behind!
Let’s face it, “coupon books” are here to stay. People say they don’t like keeping on top of all the benefits, but these benefits help people justify increasing annual fees, and banks consider them to be wildly successful.
Impressively, there are no devaluations to this card. Plus, there are lots of new benefits to make up for the extra $200 in annual fees!
We have become so accustomed to refreshes that include higher fees and major devaluations, so it’s nice to see a card refreshed that actually adds real value.
In return for the $200 annual fee, I’m already way ahead just with the $400 in Resy credits, which I’ll easily use in kosher restaurants like Mendel’s KC BBQ in Cleveland and dozens of others across the country.
The Uber One membership is also cash back in my pocket.
The $600 in hotel credits, $300 in Lululemon credits, and $300 in digital entertainment credits will also prove very useful, even if I don’t value them at their full dollar-for-dollar value. I love that YouTube is now an eligible category for that credit as well!
Those credits alone more than justify the $895 annual fee in my book, but there’s also the $200 in Uber credit, the $200 in airline fee credit, the $209 CLEAR credit, and Global Entry credit. And that’s besides for the lounge benefits, the 5x point earnings on airfare, and other card perks. All of which turn this card into a no-brainer!
Leaders Club Sterling Status and Sixt Platinum status should provide some value as well.
The Oura ring credit isn’t likely to provide much added value, but I’m sure some people will enjoy that benefit.
And I love the new mirrored finish card.
Overall, kudos to AMEX on this card’s refresh, which turned it a good value into a truly great value in my book!

AMEX has made its largest-ever investment into a card refresh on The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. The Consumer Platinum refresh adds a lot of value in rather useful and valuable “coupons,” while the Business Platinum refresh adds big value for spending on the card. While no benefits were removed from the Consumer Platinum card, the Business Platinum card now only a 35% points rebate on the airline of your choice. That’s still a valuable perk, but it is a big downgrade from getting the rebate on all airlines in premium cabins.
This post will tackle the refreshed Business Platinum card, and there will be another post for the refreshed Consumer Platinum card.

As with all AMEX cards, if you’re an existing AMEX cardholder, there is no hard credit pull for applying for a card.
You officially won’t get the welcome bonus on this card if you have or have had this card, though readers have reported success after several years.
You can tell if you are eligible for an AMEX welcome bonus by simply applying. If you are not eligible for the bonus you will get a popup notification after clicking to apply for the card. At that point you can decide whether to proceed or cancel the application before it is actually processed.
You must keep the card active without closing or downgrading it for at least 12 months.

It costs $85 to apply for a 5 year TSA Pre-Check membership which makes flying pleasant again. Shorter lines, no need to remove your shoes, belt, jacket, or hat. You can keep your laptop and small liquids inside your carry-on. And you go through a good old fashioned metal detector instead of assuming the position in the body scanner. If you charge it on your Platinum card the fee will be refunded.
It costs $120 to apply for a 5 year Global Entry membership which lets you bypass the customs line. If you have Global Entry you also get TSA Pre-Check for free. If you charge it on your Platinum card the fee will be refunded. Kids can now apply for Global Entry for free with parents who are part of the program.

If you also have a Business Platinum card that means you’ll earn a minimum of 3.08% back towards travel everywhere thanks to the points rebate!
The Business Platinum card allows you to choose whether to redeem points for paid travel or to transfer points into airline miles when tickets are expensive.
Business Platinum cardholders get a 35% points rebate for award redemptions on paid tickets on the airline that you chose for your $200 fee credit in coach. You can choose from Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit, or United. You can chat with AMEX online to change your airline selection. You will effectively get a value of 1.54 cents value per point, or higher when AMEX Insider Fares are available.
In other words if you want to book a $250 flight you’ll use 25,000 points, but AMEX will give you a 35% rebate, so you’ll get back 8,750 points in coach on the airline of your choice or in business/first class on all airlines, making the net cost just 16,250 points and earning you a value of 1.54 cents per point. When you use points for paid tickets you don’t pay any taxes and you still earn miles for the flight!
Plus, the rebate is stackable with discounted AMEX Insider fares that can be excellent deals. For example, a $350 flight can be discounted to just 25K points, meaning you’ll still pay just 16,250 points, a value of 2.15 cents per point!
You can get up to 1,000,000 rebated points per year.
You can book other airlines via codeshare with the airline of your choice. For example, you can book El Al flights via a Delta codeshare if you are registered for Delta.
Very few credit cards cover lost items, this card covers lost items up to $10,000 for up to 90 days from purchase!
My favorite AMEX benefit is return protection. If you need to return an item up to $300 and a store won’t take it back due to a time limit or final sale return policy, AMEX will gladly refund you in full thanks to return protection.
Nearly all of the time you’ll even be able to keep the item you want to return! This benefit is valid for $1,000 of returns per card per calendar year.
Additional user cards are available at no cost and also get their own $1,000 per year return protection allowance!
Additionally, if a store charges a restocking fee to return an item then AMEX will cover that cost, up to $300/item, as part of their return protection coverage.

AMEX business cards don’t appear on your credit report. That’s good for several reasons.
First of all they won’t count against your 5/24 count for opening new Chase cards. Only cards on your report that have been opened within the past 24 months count for that.
Second, when you spend money on personal cards your credit score will be hurt even if you pay your bill on time. A whopping 30% of your credit score is based on credit utilization. You can pay off your card bill before your statement is generated to avoid that, but that takes effort and laying out money well before you have to. Additionally it’s good to have the statement close with a couple dollars to show the card is active and being paid every month. On an AMEX business card it’s just not reported, so you can wait until the money is due without it having a negative effect on your score.
Third, if you close a business card it won’t ever have an effect on your score.
You may already have a business that needs a card to keep track of expenses. For example if your name is Joe Smith and you sell items online, or if you have any other side business and want a credit card to better keep track of business expenditures you can open a business credit card for “Joe Smith” as the business. You don’t need to file any messy government paperwork to be allowed to do that. Just be sure to select “Sole Proprietorship” as the business type and just use your social security number in the Tax Identification Number field.

Businesses and big spenders will also love earning 2 points per dollar on large purchases and on the business spending category purchases.
Big spenders will also be able to take advantage of the earned value credit, which will more than cover this card’s annual fee!
With $250K in purchases that earn 2 points per dollar, you’ll earn 500,000 points. Plus, that will unlock the earned value credit for a $1,200 airfare credit and $2,400 accounts payable credit. It will also unlock Centurion Lounge guesting and unlimited Delta lounge access.
Even if the business just pays its taxes like that with a 1.85% fee, it will still come out way ahead.
The $600 hotel credit is also a nice addition to this card.
Leaders Club Sterling Status and Sixt Platinum status should provide some value as well.
And I love the new mirrored finish card.
But while the consumer Platinum refresh is a great value overall for just about everyone, the case here will depend on your spending categories and how much you spend on your card, or how much you value getting a 35% points rebate on the airline of your choice.
With Chase removing the ability to get outsized redemption value for airfare except for on Points Boost redemptions, the 35% point rebate remains a valuable benefit, even if it’s now limited to the airline of your choice.

Plus, it means there is effectively no cancellation penalty on flights booked with Alaska miles as the full amount paid in miles and taxes will be refunded.

It costs $85 to apply for a 5 year TSA Pre-Check membership which makes flying pleasant again. Shorter lines, no need to remove your shoes, belt, jacket, or hat. You can keep your laptop and small liquids inside your carry-on. And you go through a good old fashioned metal detector instead of assuming the position in the body scanner. If you charge it on your card the fee will be refunded.
It costs $120 to apply for a 5 year Global Entry membership which lets you bypass the customs line. If you have Global Entry you also get TSA Pre-Check for free. If you charge it on your card the fee will be refunded. Kids can now apply for Global Entry for free with parents who are part of the program.
That’s a $120 value every 4 years.

Capital One’s ultra-premium card, the Capital One Venture X Business Card, is offering up to 300,000 bonus miles:
The $1,000 travel credit will be applied to your account within two billing cycles and will expire 16 months after account opening. It can be used together with the card’s $300 annual travel credit. The credit will be available within Capital One Business Travel and can be applied to purchases at checkout for all travel, including flights, hotels, car rentals, vacation rentals, etc. The credit may be used in whole for a single purchase or in part over multiple purchases. If the purchase using the credit is canceled, the credit will be restored if it is not expired.
It’s worth noting that Capital One has an excellent price match guarantee for flights, hotels, or car rentals within 24 hours of booking. You can even match online travel agencies which offer little to no customer support, making this a great way to lockin lower pricing. You will get a credit for the price difference, and best of all, the credit doesn’t expire!
Note that Capital One Spark Cash Plus cardholders are unable to apply for Venture X Business. However, existing cardholders of other Spark cards like the Capital One Spark Cash Card are eligible to apply. If you do close your Spark Cash Plus card, you will become eligible for the Venture X Business Card.

The best part about this card’s annual fee is that you automatically get a $300 travel credit via the Capital One Portal and 10,000 miles every year! After those savings, you more than pay off the annual fee, with a profit!
Unlike most other Capital One cards besides the Spark Cash Plus and Venture Business Card, this card does not report spending on your personal credit report, so a high utilization rate of your credit line will not hurt your credit score.
It also means that it won’t hurt your Chase 5/24 count.
This is a charge card with no preset spend limit. It is a pay in full card with no APR as your balance is due in full monthly.
It can be easier to make big purchases with this card than with traditional credit cards that have a hard credit limit.
Receive a $300 annual travel credit every cardmembership year for all travel booked through the Capital One Travel portal, where you can book flights, hotels, and car rentals. Those credits can be applied multiple times until you spend $300.
If you maximize this credit, this card’s effective annual fee is just $95.
Cardholders will get an anniversary bonus of 10,000 miles every year that they have the card. Those miles are worth $100 towards travel or gift cards, but they can also be transferred into 10K airline miles where they can be much more valuable. At a value of 1.5 cents per airline mile, that’s like another $150 back every card anniversary.
Between the $300 annual travel credit and the 10,000 mile anniversary bonus, the annual rewards are worth more than the card’s annual fee!
As this card is easily profitable to open for the signup bonus and then keep open for the annual card anniversary bonuses, it’s a no brainer to open a Venture X Business Card in addition to a Venture X Card.

Venture X Cardholders have access to The Premier Collection of hotels.
Those hotels will qualify for the card’s $300 travel credit and 10x points per dollar, plus you’ll get a $100 experience during your stay, breakfast for 2, free WiFi, upgrades, early check-in, late checkout, and you will earn standard elite credit, elite benefits, and hotel points.
Cardholders get access to airfare perks like the ability to get free price drop credits, get alerted about price drops, and the ability to pay a nominal fee to freeze airfare prices or get a refund on airfare for any reason.
It’s worth noting that Capital One has an excellent price match guarantee for flights, hotels, or car rentals within 24 hours of booking. You can even match online travel agencies that offer little to no customer support, making this a great way to lock in lower pricing. You will get a credit for the price difference, and best of all, the credit doesn’t expire!

The Capital One Venture X Business card, the Spark Cash Plus, and the Venture Business Card don’t appear on your credit report. That’s good for several reasons.
First of all they won’t count against your 5/24 count for opening new Chase cards. Only cards on your report that have been opened within the past 24 months count for that.
Second, when you spend money on personal cards your credit score will be hurt even if you pay your bill on time. A whopping 30% of your credit score is based on credit utilization. You can pay off your card bill before your statement is generated to avoid that, but that takes effort and laying out money well before you have to. Additionally, it’s good to have the statement close with a couple dollars to show the card is active and being paid every month. On this card it’s just not reported, so you can wait until the money is due without it having a negative effect on your score.
Third, if you close a business card it won’t ever have an effect on your score.
You may already have a business that needs a card to keep track of expenses. For example if your name is Joe Smith and you sell items online, or if you have any other side business and want a credit card to better keep track of business expenditures you can open a business credit card for “Joe Smith” as the business. You don’t need to file any messy government paperwork to be allowed to do that.
Just be sure to select “Sole Proprietorship” as the business type and just use your social security number in the Tax Identification Number field
You can redeem your points to pay yourself back for any travel related expenses (airfare, hotels, car rentals, cruises, ride sharing, etc) or book new travel at a value of 1 cent per point. There’s no need to book via any portal, just pay yourself back for part or all of a purchase!

You can also combine miles between Capital One miles cards, transfer cash back into miles, and you can transfer miles to any Capital One cardholder!
A nice perk is that after the 1,000 mile minimum transfer, you only need to transfer points in increments of 100, meaning you have fewer leftover points compared to other bank transfers.
This card is a no-brainer thanks to the annual credits that more than cover the annual fee and a massive signup bonus, if you can swing the spending.
Assuming you take advantage of those annual credits, there is essentially no cost for all of the card’s valuable benefits, like Capital One lounge access, Priority Pass lounge access, Hertz elite status, high end protections, and more.
With the ability to reimburse yourself for any travel purchase and the option to transfer miles to airlines, spending on the card is valuable and doesn’t require jumping through hoops with multiple cards as with other banks.
Plus, with the business version of this card, you’ll get free guesting at Priority Pass lounges, plus spending won’t be reported on your personal credit report and the card won’t count against your 5/24 count.
The signup bonus is just gravy on top of those benefits!
