SECURITY SCARE: 300 Evacuated After Loaded Weapons Found Near Paris Shul
Approximately 300 people were evacuated Saturday night after police discovered weapons inside a stolen vehicle parked near a shul in the city of Sarcelles, north of Paris.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said authorities have opened an investigation but have not yet determined a motive.
“We still do not know the motives,” Nunez said, adding that the individuals connected to the vehicle have not been identified. He noted that “weapons of war” were found inside the car but stressed that, at this stage, there is no evidence allowing authorities to classify the incident as an act of terrorism.
The unoccupied vehicle was discovered around 9:30 p.m. on Rue Henri-Dunant, prompting the evacuation of approximately 300 people from nearby restaurants, entertainment venues and the surrounding area.
During a search of the vehicle’s trunk, police recovered two firearms: a rifle loaded with seven rounds and a handgun loaded with ten rounds.
