Jul 15, 2026·2 min read

Montefiore Nyack Hospital has been recognized by the American Heart Association with the prestigious Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, honoring the hospital’s commitment to providing timely, evidence-based stroke care that improves patient outcomes and helps save lives.

In addition to the Gold Plus designation, Montefiore Nyack Hospital also received the Target: Stroke℠ Honor Roll Elite Award, recognizing its success in rapidly treating eligible stroke patients with thrombolytic therapy to reduce the time between arrival at the hospital and life-saving treatment.

The hospital was also awarded the Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ Honor Roll Award, which recognizes hospitals that provide the latest evidence-based care for stroke patients with Type 2 diabetes, a group at increased risk for complications.

According to the American Heart Association, stroke is the fourth leading cause of death and a leading cause of long-term disability in the United States. A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted by a clot or a ruptured blood vessel, making rapid diagnosis and treatment critical to improving survival and reducing disability.

The American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke program helps hospitals nationwide deliver care that aligns with the latest research and national treatment guidelines. Hospitals earning these awards demonstrate a consistent commitment to high-quality stroke care while also educating patients on recovery and long-term health management.

“Montefiore Nyack Hospital is committed to improving patient care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines,” said Mark Geller, MD, FACR, President and CEO of Montefiore Nyack Hospital. “Get With The Guidelines helps our teams put proven science into practice every day. Research shows this approach can support better recovery, with the ultimate goal of helping people in Rockland County live longer, healthier lives.”

The American Heart Association praised the hospital’s continued dedication to excellence in stroke care.

“We are proud to recognize Montefiore Nyack Hospital for its commitment to caring for people experiencing stroke,” said Steven Messe, M.D., volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Stroke System of Care Advisory Group. “Participation in Get With The Guidelines is associated with improved patient outcomes, including greater likelihood of being discharged home, fewer readmissions, and lower mortality rates—a meaningful benefit for health care systems, families, and communities.”

The recognition reflects Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to stroke patients throughout Rockland County and the surrounding region.
