CLOSURE DEMAND: MK Tzvi Succot Calls To Shut Down Jerusalem Cafe He Says Is Linked To Hamas
MK Tzvi Succot, chairman of the Knesset Education Committee and the Subcommittee for Yehuda and Shomron Affairs, on Wednesday called for the closure of a cafe in Jerusalem’s Old City that he says is operated by an organization affiliated with Hamas.
Succot visited The Message Cafe in the Muslim Quarter, claiming it is run by the Al-Quds Committee (“Lajnat al-Quds”), which he says is affiliated with Hamas and serves as a center for spreading Islamist incitement.
According to Succot, the Jerusalem District Police have already recommended issuing a closure order for the establishment, but the process has not yet been completed.
Succot alleged that legal delays have prevented the order from being finalized and accused Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara of holding up the process.
During his visit, Succot addressed those operating the cafe, saying, “The days when you could spread incitement are over.”
He vowed to push for implementation of the police recommendation and called on the attorney general to approve the closure.
“I am sending a clear demand from here to Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara,” Succot said. “It is time to close this place. We cannot continue delaying while leaving open what he described as an incitement center operating under the protection of Hamas, the terror organization responsible for the worst massacre in Israel’s history.”
