The Shin Bet, Israel Police, and IDF announced Thursday that they have arrested several senior officials involved in operating the Union of Health Work Committees, an organization authorities say resumed functioning as part of the financial network of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorist organization.

According to Israeli security officials, the organization was designated a terrorist organization in Israel in 2021 after it was found to play a significant role in the PFLP’s financial infrastructure. It was also declared an unlawful association in Yehuda and Shomron by the head of the IDF Central Command.

The arrests were carried out in recent weeks during a joint operation involving the Shin Bet, Border Police forces operating in Yehuda and Shomron, and the IDF. Among those detained are senior officials at the organization, several of whom are also identified as PFLP operatives.

Investigators allege that the organization resumed operations from its headquarters in Ramallah and continued employing members of the PFLP despite its terrorist designation.

Israeli security officials noted that PFLP terrorists were responsible for the 2019 bombing attack at Ein Bubin Spring in which Rina Shnerb Hy”d was murdered.
