An Israeli security source told the Saudi Al Hadath television channel on Sunday that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s assassinated leader Ali Khamenei, is not currently in Iran.

The source said that messages published in Khamenei’s name are not written by him but by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps chief, Ahmad Vahidi, and other senior IRGC officials, who are effectively running the country. He did not disclose when Khamenei left the country or his whereabouts but

The source also described a dramatic picture of the state of Iran’s leadership, saying that there are fierce internal divisions that are threatening to tear the country apart from within.

“The internal divisions in Iran are very deep,” the source said, adding that these rifts “threaten the very existence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps”—the Ayatollah regime’s principal military and security force.

The Al-Hadath report also addressed Iran’s plans for retaliation following the assassination of Ali Khamenei. According to the Israeli security source, Iran planned a series of targeted, high-profile attacks, including the assassination of senior Israeli figures in the heart of Tel Aviv.

He did not disclose further details about the plot or whether any suspects connected to it had been arrested.

The report also addressed the Trump administration’s stance about Israel joining the military campaign against Iran.

“Washington does not want Israel participating in the operations,” the source said, emphasizing that the US veto would apply “even if Iran attacks Israel.”
