Otzma Yehudit chairman and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir sent a letter Monday to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu setting a firm condition for his party to enter the next goverment: Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara must be dismissed immediately and replaced without delay.

Ben Gvir made clear that, in his view, Baharav-Miara’s continued service is incompatible with further coalition cooperation and that her removal will be a prerequisite for Otzma Yehudit to join the next government.

In the letter, Ben Gvir recalled urging Netanyahu at the start of the current government’s term to remove Baharav-Miara, accusing her of acting confrontationally against the elected government and displaying what he described as “appalling unprofessionalism.” Ben Gvir said Netanyahu responded that he was “a young minister” and that “this is not how things are done.”

Ben Gvir accused the attorney general of repeatedly working to thwart government policy, fabricating cases against elected officials and government-appointed public servants, attempting to block senior appointments and seeking his unprecedented removal from the position of national security minister through a petition filed with the High Court.

“I hereby inform you unequivocally that the first threshold condition for Otzma Yehudit’s entry into the next government is the dismissal of Gali Baharav-Miara immediately upon the government’s formation, and the immediate appointment of an attorney general who does not rebel against the elected leadership and who works to help the government implement its policies — rather than obstructing it and its members,” Ben Gvir wrote.

He added that Otzma Yehudit would demand the establishment of an investigative committee with powers in the criminal sphere to examine all actions taken by Baharav-Miara and her staff.

“Without the fulfillment of this condition, we will not be able to enter the government,” Ben Gvir concluded.
