Israeli authorities have arrested a 29-year-old Nazareth resident on suspicion of plotting a terrorist attack targeting National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

The Shin Bet and Israel Police identified the suspect as Mohammed Awad, an Israeli citizen who allegedly was preparing an attack against Ben Gvir. Investigators said Awad worked as an unarmed security guard at the central bus station in Afula.

On Tuesday, the Northern District Prosecutor’s Office filed a prosecutor’s declaration with the Nazareth District Court, a procedural step taken ahead of filing a formal indictment.

In a joint statement, the Shin Bet and Israel Police said they view any involvement by Israeli citizens in activities that threaten the security of the State of Israel with the utmost seriousness. They added that security agencies will continue using all legal tools available to investigate and prosecute those suspected of terrorist-related offenses.
