RESERVISTS CHARGED: Three Soldiers Accused of Abusing Gaza Detainee

Jul 22, 2026·2 min read

Three IDF reservists have been charged with aggravated abuse of a Gaza detainee at the Naftali detention facility, the IDF announced Tuesday.

According to the indictment, the three allegedly took the detainee to a shower room in the secure wing under the pretense of holding a “disciplinary conversation.” While he was handcuffed and blindfolded, they allegedly beat him, despite no prior resistance or prohibited conduct on his part.

The indictment states that the soldiers stopped after noticing that the detainee had been injured.

The detainee was a Gaza resident who had been staying in Israel without authorization since August 2023 and was arrested by security forces in October 2024. His detention order was canceled at the end of December 2024, and he was returned to Gaza before the investigation began. He is not included on the case’s witness list.

The Military Police Criminal Investigation Division opened an investigation after the Naftali detention facility reported suspected abuse of a security detainee in December 2024. The indictment is based in part on statements provided by the accused and by other soldiers during the investigation.

Following the investigation, and after the suspects were given an opportunity to attend a hearing, the military prosecution filed the indictment against the three on July 1, 2026.
