A new disagreement has reportedly emerged between Washington and Jerusalem over plans for the “day after” in Gaza, with the United States pressing to accelerate the establishment of a new city in southern Gaza while Israel insists on security guarantees to prevent Hamas from returning to the area.

According to a report by Walla’s Amir Bohbot, the U.S. has urged Israel to quickly complete construction of the new complex near Rafah and transfer responsibility for it to a multinational force. Israeli officials have reportedly objected, saying they will not agree unless there are firm guarantees that Hamas will be prevented from reestablishing itself in the area.

The report says the discussions are taking place as Hamas attempts to rebuild both its military and civilian infrastructure in Gaza, while Khalil al-Hayya, based in Qatar, has assumed leadership of the terrorist organization.

According to the report, American and Israeli officials continue working toward an agreement, though some believe the delay stems from concerns that the U.S.-backed plan in southern Gaza could have political ramifications for Israel’s current government ahead of the upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military has reportedly established a presence at an IDF base in the Gaza Division sector. The base has undergone extensive upgrades, including the construction of command centers, offices, sleeping quarters, and storage facilities for military equipment, weapons, and vehicles.

The report says the base is secured by U.S. troops armed with assault rifles who patrol the area in military vehicles. Dozens of Humvees and armored trucks have already arrived for the future multinational force, with hundreds more military vehicles expected in the coming weeks.

At the same time, the IDF and Israel’s Defense Ministry are continuing preparations for Gaza’s post-war reality, including rebuilding border defenses, restoring damaged security barriers, and constructing additional advanced obstacle systems along the Gaza border.
