As senior Israeli security officials warn of the possibility of an intifada in Yehuda and Shomron, a senior Central Command officer emphasized the role of hostile foreign elements in Iran and Turkey in the increasingly volatile security environment.

The warnings come after two Israelis were murdered in a terror attack in the Shomron on Friday morning. The death of Maj. Yuval Ezra, H’yd, a 27-year-old artillery company commander from Herzliya, was announced on Friday afternoon, the second soldier murdered in the shooting attack by an Arab sheik from the Palestinian village of Tell. The death of Master Sgt. (res.) Binyahu Mellet, H’yd, a 32-year-old father of two from Yitzhar and member of the Havat Gilad emergency response squad, was announced earlier on Friday.

Following the attack, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir ordered significant reinforcements to the Yehuda and Shomron Division, shifting forces from other sectors. The move followed a security assessment that concluded additional forces were urgently needed in the area.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz also ordered a series of measures, including the immediate demolition of the terrorist’s home, which took place on Sunday, intensified operations in villages identified as terrorist strongholds, and a broad campaign to arrest wanted suspects. So far, security forces arrested more than 80 terror suspects in the area.

Over the past year, Israeli defense officials have recorded a clear increase in terrorist activity across the Shomron. According to a Walla report, Israeli security officials attribute the escalation to hostile foreign elements after identifying the involvement of officials in Iran and Turkey in the terror surge, including large-scale terror financing and the smuggling of advanced weapons into the area.

Officials say that hostile elements in Gaza, Tehran, and Ankara are directing and financing local terrorist networks, using digital platforms to move funds and coordinate activity while exploiting technological gaps in financial oversight.

A senior Central Command officer warned that the situation in Yehuda and Shomron is “a dynamic pressure cooker that could explode at any moment.”

“Beneath the surface of the daily headlines, Yehuda and Shomron are burning—both openly and behind the scenes,” the officer said.

“We are fighting a two-front battle,” he added. “One against organized terrorist infrastructure, and another against foreign smuggling networks directed by Iran and Turkey.”

He emphasized that the IDF, the Shin Bet, and the Border Police are operating around the clock to dismantle terrorist elements, but the persistent threat of lone attackers and local terror cells exploiting every opportunity to target civilians and soldiers remains high.

Another factor in the security situation is the increase in Israeli yishuvim in Yehuda and Shomron, including dozens of outposts and isolated farms, which has increased the security burden on the IDF. Israeli forces must devote substantial resources to protecting civilian communities while maintaining security and public order across the Shomron and the Binyamin region.

Israeli security officials emphasize that the current campaign is expected to be prolonged and will require sustained vigilance.
