IRAN TALKS ADVANCE: U.S. Official Says Negotiations Have Reached “Serious Stage”

Jul 27, 2026·1 min read

Negotiations between the United States and Iran have reached a “serious stage,” with proposals exchanged through mediators, according to a Trump administration official who spoke to Kan News.

The official said no agreements have yet been reached, but described the exchange of proposals as progress. The development comes ahead of President Trump’s meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington.

The White House is maintaining an unusually low media profile ahead of the meeting. No joint press conference or formal statements are expected, and access for reporters accompanying Netanyahu will be limited.

Trump said he and Netanyahu have “some differences” over Iran, but added that they remain “pretty close.” He said Iran sought to return to negotiations after suffering heavy blows.

“The only reason the Iranians want to talk is that they’re not in good shape,” Trump said. “There’s a chance something will happen in the talks, and if not, we’ll go back to what we were doing before.”
