The United Arab Emirates is pursuing a dual-track strategy of restoring diplomatic and economic ties with Iran while simultaneously strengthening its defense and strategic partnerships with the United States and Israel, according to the Financial Times.

The effort is aimed at protecting the UAE’s economy and security after months of regional conflict. Abu Dhabi has resumed limited trade with Iran, restarted Iranian flights and begun allowing thousands of Iranian residents who were stranded abroad to return.

Emirati officials also see potential investment opportunities in Iran if sanctions are eventually lifted.

At the same time, the UAE continues to expand military and strategic cooperation with Washington and Jerusalem, including in air defense, artificial intelligence, technology and defense industries.

The UAE is also investing in more resilient infrastructure and alternative trade routes in an effort to reduce its dependence on the Strait of Hormuz.

A senior UAE official said the détente with Tehran is part of a broader strategy to manage relations with Iran while strengthening deterrence and preparing for the possibility of future conflict.
