A Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for further talks on the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, meeting with mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, according to Asharq Al-Awsat.
The delegation brought revised proposals addressing two major issues: the future of Hamas’s weapons and the status of government employees in Gaza.
Hamas is prepared to accept the inclusion of the term “infrastructure” in discussions over its weapons and is willing to place its arms under the supervision of the mediators, the Board of Peace and Gaza’s future administrative committee.
The group has also decided to remove members of the Qassam Brigades from Gaza government payrolls. Those holding the rank of platoon leader or higher would instead be paid directly by the armed wing.
