A technical issue is preventing riders from adding money to OMNY cards across the MTA system Tuesday, prompting the agency to advise subway and bus riders to use another payment option when possible.
According to an alert posted by the MTA, OMNY cards currently cannot be refilled at vending machines, Customer Service Centers, or online. The agency also warned that there may be delays in processing some tap-and-ride payments.
Riders can still pay their fare by tapping a credit or debit card, smartphone, or smartwatch device. OMNY cards that already have enough money loaded onto them can also still be used.
The MTA alert was posted Tuesday morning and did not provide a cause for the technical issue or an estimated time for when card refills would become available again.
The disruption affects OMNY refill services throughout the subway and bus system, while regular transit service continues operating.
