Notable progress is now visible at Bush Terminal’s Pier 6 in Sunset Park, where active construction is transforming the long-abandoned waterfront pier into a new five-acre public park expected to open in 2027.

Ground was broken on the $25 million project last summer, and construction is now well underway as the future park continues taking shape. Once completed, the project will reopen a section of the waterfront that has been inaccessible to the public for decades.

The new park will feature walking paths, open green space, waterfront access, an outdoor classroom, gathering areas, and recreational water activities, creating a new destination where residents and visitors can enjoy the waterfront.

The park will connect directly with the existing Bush Terminal Piers Park, creating a larger continuous public park and expanding access to this section of the Brooklyn waterfront. Plans also call for preserving much of the vegetation that has naturally developed on the abandoned pier over the years.

Construction remains ongoing, with completion expected in 2027. While there is still work ahead, the visible progress now taking shape offers a glimpse of what will soon become one of Brooklyn’s newest waterfront parks.
