A dramatic new development has emerged in the investigation into the murder of Binyahu Razi in Jerusalem, as Israeli police and the Israel Prison Service announced the arrest of a prison officer suspected of obstructing the investigation and breaching the public trust.

Authorities said the officer, 34, of Hod Hasharon, serves at a correctional facility in central Israel where a relative of the main murder suspect is serving a prison sentence.

According to investigators, the officer allegedly maintained a personal relationship with the inmate and, together with him, is suspected of helping obstruct the murder investigation and assisting the fugitive suspect.

The arrest followed a covert joint investigation by the Jerusalem District Police’s Serious Crime Unit and the Israel Prison Service after prison officials uncovered information raising concerns about the officer’s conduct.

Police emphasized that the man suspected of murdering Binyahu Razi remains on the run, with an intensive manhunt continuing around the clock.

The suspecting officer was taken in for questioning, and investigators will decide, based on the findings, whether to request that she remain in custody.

Chief Inspector Rotem Hila Zaken, head of investigations for the Zion Precinct, said: “The manhunt for the murder suspect continues around the clock, and investigators are working day and night to obtain any piece of information that could reveal his location and lead to his arrest. We said from the beginning of the investigation that we would reach every person connected to the incident and anyone who assists in obstructing the investigation or the suspect’s escape, with the goal of uncovering the truth and bringing everyone involved to justice.”
