President Donald Trump said he would be willing to temporarily withdraw Todd Blanche’s nomination for a federal judgeship in North Carolina as his administration seeks to overcome opposition from two Republican senators.

Trump nominated Blanche, his former personal attorney and current solicitor general, to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. However, Republican Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis have both indicated that they will not support the nomination, effectively blocking it from advancing.

“I have no objection to temporarily withdrawing Todd’s name, if they do not do the right thing, and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump said the nomination could be submitted again once the senators are no longer in office. Cornyn has announced that he will not seek reelection, while Tillis is also set to leave the Senate after his current term.

Blanche has said he wants the administration to clarify that an agreement with prosecutors in a tax-related matter limits the president and those involved in the lawsuit. Cornyn said he had provided documentation that did not require changing the relevant agreement.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley said the dispute should be resolved before the nomination proceeds, while Trump expressed confidence that the differences could ultimately be worked out.
