Statement from B’nai Brith Canada, a prominent human rights organization committed to combating antisemitism and hate and defending human rights:

“Jewish Canadians have heard enough condemnations and promises. Now we need action.

B’nai Brith Canada is demanding five concrete actions from governments within the next 30 days to address this crisis with the seriousness required:

1. Stronger enforcement of existing criminal laws – Prioritize antisemitic hate crimes, intimidation, vandalism and violence, and prosecute aggressively where the evidence supports it.

2. Harsher penalties for hate-motivated crimes – Seek sentences that reflect the seriousness of hate-motivated offences and strengthen protection for Jewish institutions.

3. Deport temporary residents convicted of hate crimes or violence – Where the law permits, pursue removal after due process.

4. Protect Jewish institutions – Deploy increased police and professional security to synagogues, schools, community centres and vulnerable Jewish-owned businesses.

5. Take a tougher approach to extremist organizations – Investigate extremist networks, list terrorist entities where the legal threshold is met, and freeze or seize terrorist assets.

The next 30 days will show whether governments intend to act or simply keep talking.”
