During a recent closed-door meeting, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu reportedly spoke against the so-called “Arrest Law,” which was intended to prevent the arrest of bnei yeshivos, saying that the law had failed in practice and that, if he forms the next government, such legislation will not be introduced, Channel 12 News reported on Sunday.
“The temporary Arrest Law was intended to lower tensions and increase enlistment among the Chareidi public,” Netanyahu reportedly said. “In practice, it did not succeed, and therefore there will not be such a law in the next government.”
According to the report, Netanyahu then outlined his plans for the period after the elections.
“After the elections, we will establish a broad national government that will immediately pass a comprehensive draft law that meets the IDF’s needs,” he declared.
“Anyone who is not learning Torah will be drafted—or go to jail. Chareidim who do not enlist will be imprisoned.”
