A Turkish national accused of helping funnel millions of dollars and supplies to Hamas through a humanitarian organization has been arrested in the United Kingdom and is expected to be extradited to the United States to face terrorism-related charges.

According to U.S. prosecutors, 45-year-old Muhammad Yusuf Hasana of Istanbul played a central role in a network that allegedly used a global charity as a front to transfer money, food, and other resources to Hamas leaders.

Hasana was arrested in the U.K. on Friday at the request of U.S. authorities. His detention has been extended while extradition proceedings move forward, after which he is expected to stand trial in federal court in New York.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Jamie McDonald said Hasana worked closely with senior Hamas officials to provide financial and logistical support under the guise of humanitarian aid. Hamas is designated by the United States as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
