New Jersey American Water (NJAW) crews are continuing door-to-door canvassing this week in the Route 9 South area of Lakewood as part of the utility’s Lead Service Line Replacement Program.

Authorized representatives from NJAW’s contractor, CDM Smith, are visiting homes to identify properties that may have lead or galvanized steel water service lines eligible for replacement under a 2021 New Jersey law requiring all water providers to replace such lines by 2031.

Residents may choose to submit photos of their water service line to NJAW or schedule a free in-person inspection, which typically takes about 15 minutes. Canvassers will wear clearly marked safety vests displaying New Jersey American Water and CDM Smith logos, carry official identification, and will never ask for personal or financial information.

NJAW emphasized that all inspections and replacement work are performed only by the utility or its authorized contractors, not by Lakewood Township or any other government agency, although the effort is being coordinated with the township to help inform residents.

Officials also stressed that Lakewood’s drinking water remains safe to use and continues to meet all state and federal water quality standards, including those for lead.
