An 80-year-old woman was killed in a traffic accident involving three buses on David Remez Street in Ashkelon on Tuesday afternoon.
At 2:06 p.m., Magen David Adom’s Lachish dispatch center received a report that several pedestrians had been struck by a bus.
Dvir Malul, an MDA volunteer who arrived at the scene, said: “This is a bus terminal. Three women were standing at a bus stop. One of the buses was traveling at high speed and apparently suffered a brake failure. It was unable to stop at the station and struck the women waiting at the stop. One of them became trapped beneath the bus. The bus then collided with two other parked buses. There were passengers on the bus, but none of them were injured.”
Israel Police said: “Israel Police has opened an investigation into the circumstances of a fatal traffic accident that occurred a short time ago in Ashkelon involving three buses. According to medical officials, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people sustained serious injuries and were evacuated to Barzilai Medical Center for treatment.
“Officers from the Ashkelon police station and traffic accident investigators from the Lachish District are at the scene, directing traffic and continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident.”
