What does Prime Minister Netanyahu really think about President Trump’s Board of Peace plan for the Gaza Strip?

Channel 14 journalist Tamir Morag wrote: “Publicly, Netanyahu has remained silent, but people who have spoken with him behind closed doors describe a very different picture.”

“A senior political source told us this evening: ‘Behind the scenes, the Prime Minister is deeply agitated by the document published by the Board of Peace. Outwardly, he is maintaining relative silence, but Netanyahu reacted very negatively to parts of the document. What was published simply does not match the information the US presented to the cabinet. There is a harsh feeling that we were misled.”

“Against that backdrop, Religious Zionism ministers Betzalel Smotrich and Orit Strock appealed to the Prime Minister, demanding that he urgently convene the Security Cabinet and rescind the decision allowing the advance unit of the international force to begin deploying in the Gaza Strip.

“The two ministers say outright that the Board of Peace misled the Israeli cabinet, which voted on the matter based on incorrect information it had received. They point to a long list of flaws in the agreement—for example, one of many, the provision stating that the international force will serve as a buffer between the IDF and Hamas but will not act to disarm Hamas, contrary to US promises.

“There is immense anger in Jerusalem directed not only at the director-general of the Board of Peace, Nikolay Mladenov, but also at President Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, whose fingerprints are clearly evident in the agreement.

“For many months, Israel waited for the Board of Peace and the administration to finally declare that Hamas was violating its agreement by refusing to disarm. In the end, when the Americans realized they would not be able to achieve that objective, they worked together with the mediators—Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt—to formulate an agreement tailored to Hamas’s needs, effectively allowing the organization to remain on its feet in the Gaza Strip.”
